Do the Helix Boards work as a multitrack surface?

Q: Does the Helix Board 12 work as a multitrack surface with PC recording programs such as Tracktion, Reason, etc? In other words, are the separate channels on the mixer visible to the computer as separate tracks?

A: The left and right output channels of the mixer appear as separate channels in the record program when connected through the USB interface, or, if your software permits, you can combine the two channels and monitor them as a stereo channel. Each input channel of the Helix Board 12 and Helix Board 17 is not independently available, however.

For a multitrack recording device, such as described, try the Helix Board FireWire or Helix Board Universal series. Phonic doesn't currently manufacture any mixers that operate as control surfaces.

Our current models in the Helix Board series that offer multi-track capabilities are:

  • Helix Board 12 FireWire MKII
  • Helix Board 18 FireWire MKII
  • Helix Board 24 FireWire MKII
  • Helix Board 12 Plus
  • Helix Board 12 Universal
  • Helix Board 18 Universal
  • Helix Board 24 Universal
