Can I use Helix Board USB mixers to record music on my computer?

If you want to record and listen to only 2 tracks (the main signal), the Helix USB boards will work fine for you. The USB 1.1 standard has data transfer speed limitations, so 2 tracks simultaneously is all that it can do. However, if you want to multi-track (for example record a track and then overdub 8 - 16 additional tracks while simultaneously listening to the earlier ones) then I recommend you purchase one of our new Helix Board 12, 18, or 24 FireWire MKII mixers. They work with either Apple or PCs and come with Cubase recording software in the box, which is a good program to get started with. The actual recording is done on your computer, the mixer acts as your computer interface as well as mic-preamp, EQ, digital FX, etc.

Note: As of 2008 Phonic have released the Helix Board Universals which offer USB 2.0 interfaces for multi-track recording.
