I keep losing the FireWire connection - what could be wrong?

First, we suggest users try the following:

  • Make sure the FireWire connection is firmly in place at all times.
  • Try to use the Helix Board or Firefly with another Mac or PC computer to verify the unit works.
  • PC users may want to ensure they have a FireWire card with a TI chip onboard, as this will be more compatible than other cards.

Other than this, it's important that your computer be able to handle the processing power it takes to record for long periods of time. If your computers constantly running on full resources and rapidly running out of hard disc space, a disconnect may occur.

We recommend closing all possible background programs and unnecessary processes to ensure the full system resources of your computer are at the Helix Board or Firefly's disposal. Closing any anti-virus and Firewall programs may also be useful. You may also want to try a latency checker with your signal.
