The main (and most interesting) feature in the upgraded Helix Board FireWire MKIIs is the Pre/Post switch, which allows the user to swap the streaming input channels to computer from pre-low cut,- EQ to post-EQ, post-fader. Also the onboard 24-bit digital effect processor has been upgraded to a 32/40-bit digital multi-effect processor with 100 programs, as well as tap-delay and test-tones.

The Helix Board 18 FireWire has also been upgraded to include S/PDIF output.

Previous versions of the Helix Board FireWire allowed a final stereo signal of the main left and right mix to be sent to the computer. This has now been changed, and users have the ability to select between the main stereo mix, as well as the AUX or Group mixes, if they wish.

The bundled Cubase LE recording software for MKII has also been upgraded, allowing users to record up to 8 tracks simultaneously (instead of the 4 tracks available on previous versions). The version of Cubase offered to customers has also been upgraded to Cubase LE 4, with a number of new and interesting features.
